I did have an iPhone, but that was over a year ago. I have never owned an iPod while I've owned this computer, so no iPod has ever been connected to it. My GeForceExperience, the program for my HP printer, and my personal favorite the ipodservice.exe. Want proof? Pay close attention to the dozens of other programs in those same lists that are all doing the exact same thing.

The 53MB worth of RAM that is being reserved is simply how Windows works. Its CPU and Disk usage are both a fat 0.00% as I have not yet launched the game today since booting up my system.Īnd with zero CPU or Disk usage, that means that NOTHING on my system is being actively scanned and no informaiton being communicted back to Hi-Rez. While the HiPatchService is listed as running, the only thing it's currently doing is reserving a whopping 53MB worth of RAM. Below are 3 screenshots from my system resource monitor, showing CPU, Disk and RAM usage. I've posted screenshots before in other threads, but its obvious they need to be posted again. Open your Services tab in your task manager and you'll see about 200 programs listed, with most of them listed as "Active" and none of them are Spyware either. Which simply doesn't exist in free to play games.ĭon't believe the OP, he's a liar and there is no spyware of any kind that gets installed with STEAM.

But it is in no wayt DRM as DRM only prevents the sharing of coyprighted material. That tool is tied into a program that does multiple other things, like keep the game up to date. And since Hi-Rez does not use VAC, they have to still use their own anti-cheating tools. STEAM is a retailer, no different than Best Buy.

Will I have to launch a seperate DRM after steam to be able to play the game? You can say its a mistake for the program to not be automatically uninstalled via the normal uninstall process, but it is not spyware.Įscrito originalmente por Rebellious Wolf:Is any of this even installed on the Steam version? If it was there would be constant CPU usage and HDD activity, which has been proven time and time and time again is NOT happening. Just because it shows "active" in the Services tab doesn't mean its actually doing anything. No, it is never scanning anything when the game is not running.

It behaves exactly like those malware you get from free software on downloadforge websites etc perhaps its harmless but there is no reason it should behave so suspicions and fishy And it has anti uninstallation features to make it difficult to delete.

It runs and scans your PC even AFTER you have DELETED Smite. Sir it goes a step ABOVE that in fishy and suspicious. Why do they care what I do when I am not playing their game. Only problem is it runs when you aren't playing Smite which is very fishy and suspicious. Because I know VAC covers everything along with steamworks servers. It is this very same reason I now only try out games that are strictly steamworks titles.

This is another reason I now REFUSE to even as much as install a game without steamworks. Just imagine all the games on steam you are trying out and has a ton of crap in the BG. I expect the same from HIrez is all I am saying there is no need to have crap hidden and running in the background after I deleted their game, their service cannot be compared to Punkbuster and VAC. Heroes of newerth has 0 cheaters because everything is handled serverside. I could use punk buster for all the Battlefield games which I frequent most of the time just as I use VAC for a HUGE amount of games aswell so I have no issue having it running in the BG. And its ram usage is ultra tiny, not like this crap Hirez has running eating up to 70MB of ram and only works for their games alone. Punkbuster is used for a huge amount of games though. Escrito originalmente por MP Jacque:Also note that in the launcher settings you can turn off "run updates in the background" if it annoys you.īut otherwise its really no different than, say Punkbustr, which is currently idling in my processes doing nothing because I haven't played a game that uses it in a while.
